Children Waiting For An Adoptive Home Are:
- Children of all ages, races and cultures
- Brothers and
sisters who want and need to be together
- Children who have experienced abuse
and/or neglect
- May have emotional, behavioral, or learning challenges
- May have been exposed to drugs and/or alcohol
- May have
developmental delays and/or physical delay
- Need a family that they can call
their own.
Children that Downey Side families adopt are
children whose parents’ rights are terminated.
These children
have been traumatized during critical developmental years.
There are many sibling
groups waiting to be adopted together.
The average of age of a child adopted
from foster care is 9 years old.
The children that Downey Side works with are
primarily between the ages of 7-17 years old.
These are the children who are
in desperate need of a forever home. Otherwise, they will age out of the foster care system without anyone.
20,000 children in foster care will age out of the system without ever being placed
with a permanent family.
